Islamabad: President Dr. Arif Alvi has expressed concern over the legal status of caretaker governments in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for more than 90 days.
President Arif Alvi forwarded the letter sent by PTI’s senior deputy Sad Fawad Chaudhry to the Prime Minister with an additional note.
In the additional note of the letter, President Alvi has asked the Prime Minister to consider the issues raised by the former federal minister to ensure the supremacy of the constitution and stability of democracy in the country.
In his letter to the President, Fawad Chaudhry pointed out the issues regarding the legality of the interim setup in the two provinces of the country and said that the interim governments in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have completed their term.
In the letter, it was written that there is no mention of extending the fixed period of the interim setup in the constitution. Caretaker governments are introduced under Article 224 of the Constitution to facilitate the Election Commission in conducting elections in a free, fair and honest manner in accordance with the Constitution and the law.
