PTI Lawmakers Protest with Imran Khan Masks in NA session

Islamabad: The inaugural session of the newly elected National Assembly witnessed an unconventional protest by lawmakers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) with Imran Khan Masks. Despite the President’s refusal, the assembly secretariat summoned the session, setting the stage for an unexpected display of solidarity.

Drawing widespread attention, PTI legislators made a striking statement by arriving at the assembly hall adorned with masks bearing the likeness of their incarcerated leader, Imran Khan. Amidst a chorus of fervent slogans demanding Khan’s release, the atmosphere inside the assembly was charged with emotion and defiance.

In a symbolic gesture of loyalty and support to their party’s founder and former chairman, PTI MPs also prominently displayed Imran Khan’s posters, effectively transforming the assembly floor into a visual tribute to the embattled leader.

The protest unfolded against the backdrop of PTI’s recent electoral victories in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, achieved despite Khan’s removal from the prime ministerial post through a no-confidence vote in April 2022. Despite the setback, PTI managed to maintain its political relevance, albeit with candidates contesting as independents.

The sight of PTI politicians donning Imran Khan masks served not only as a poignant plea for his release but also as a rallying cry for the party faithful. However, the unconventional protest tactic did not escape criticism and humorous commentary on social media platforms.

While supporters applauded the innovative form of protest as a testament to PTI’s unwavering commitment to its leader, detractors questioned the seriousness of the elected officials’ approach. Some even took a lighthearted stance, offering amusing observations on the attire of the politicians behind the masks.
