The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party announced on Saturday that it will file a First Information Report (FIR) against the federal government, accusing it of using excessive force during a protest march towards the capital on November 24.
The decision was made during a core committee meeting where party leaders discussed the violent crackdown on PTI supporters and considered initiating a civil disobedience movement.
Barrister Gohar, the committee’s chairman, was tasked with evaluating the feasibility of the movement and is expected to present a detailed report within 48 hours.
Another sub-committee, led by lawmaker Latif Khosa, will oversee the legal process of filing the FIR against the government for its alleged aggression during the protests.
The PTI alleges that unarmed civilians participating in the march were met with force under Article 245. The government reportedly deployed rubber bullets, tear gas, and live ammunition to disperse protesters.
According to the party, 12 protestors were killed, dozens injured, and over 143 people are currently unaccounted for.
In a parallel development, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for over 25 individuals, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
Other prominent PTI leaders, such as Senator Shibli Faraz, Shehryar Afridi, and Makhdoom Zain Qureshi, were also named in connection with the May 9 attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ) last year.
ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah has directed the Rawalpindi city police officer to produce the accused in court by December 10.
On December 5, during a hearing at Adiala Jail, charges were formally framed against 100 individuals, including PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Imran Khan has denied all allegations, maintaining his stance that the charges are politically motivated.
