Punjab allows limited Basant celebrations in Lahore for three days

Kite flying permitted only on February 6, 7, and 8 in Lahore; ban remains in force across rest of province

Lahore: The Punjab government has allowed a limited celebration of the Basant festival in Lahore on February 6, 7, and 8, while kite flying will remain strictly prohibited in the rest of the province.

The Punjab Home Department has issued a notification to all commissioners, deputy commissioners, regional police officers, and district police officers, directing strict enforcement of the province-wide ban under the Kite Flying Regulations Bill 2025.

The decision follows concerns raised by authorities over illegal kite flying in various areas, which has led to injuries and fatalities among passers-by and poses a serious threat to human life and public safety.

According to the directives, the manufacturing of kites and kite strings, as well as kite flying outside the notified dates and designated areas, is completely illegal and will not be allowed under any circumstances.

The Home Department has instructed that all actions must be taken in strict compliance with the 2025 regulations. Legal action may be initiated against violators, including kite manufacturers, suppliers, and those involved in kite flying.

All districts have also been directed to submit compliance reports to the Home Department, confirming the implementation of these measures.
