Qalandars down Zalmi by 40 runs in high scoring encounter

Lahore: In the 15th match of the Pakistan Super League, Lahore Qalandar defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 40 runs after a one-sided match thanks to Fakhar Zaman’s brilliant batting and Shaheen Afridi’s bowling.

The 15th match of PSL was played between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the toss of the match was in favor of Qalandars, then captain Shaheen Afridi announced to bat first.

Chasing a target of 242 runs, Peshawar Zalmi got off to a disappointing start when Shaheen Afridi clean bowled Mohammad Haris on the second ball of the first over and then sent Babar Azam to the pavilion on a total score of 28.

Then Saim Ayub and Tom Koehler Cadmore batted responsibly and improved the position of the team by establishing a partnership of 91 runs, but on a total score of 119, Tom Kohler was dismissed after scoring 55 runs, then Saim Ayub also scored an innings of 51 runs. Returned to the pavilion at 127 after playing.

Newcomers Ruman 20, Bhanuka 24, Wahab Riaz Safar, Shaan Masood 16, James Neesham 12 were out. Chasing a target of 242 runs, Peshawar Zalmi scored 201 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted overs, thus Lahore Qalandars won by 40 runs.

Peshawar Zalmi’s Tom Kidd and Saeem Ayub were the prominent batsmen with 55, while Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi got five, Zaman Khan got two and Rashid Khan, Haris Rauf got one each.

Earlier, Fakhar Zaman and Mirza Baig opened the innings for Lahore Qalandars which was not good as Wahab Riaz guided Mirza Baig to the pavilion for a total score of 7. Later, Abdullah Shafiq and Fakhar Zaman, batting responsibly, pushed the score forward and established a partnership of 100 runs to stabilize the team’s position.

In the twelfth over, Abdullah Shafiq scored 75 runs and was caught out by Wahab Riaz, thus the second wicket of Qalandars fell on a total score of 127. Then Fakhar Zaman fell short of his century by just four runs and returned to the pavilion with a score of 96.

Then Sam Billing played an innings of 47 not out off 23 balls while batting aggressively. Wahab Riaz of Peshawar Zalmi took two wickets while Roman Powell took one wicket.

Lahore Qalandars scored 241 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in the allotted twenty overs and gave Zalmi a target of 242 runs to win.

The Lahore team made two changes in the match, Sam Billings and Abdullah Shafiq have been added to the squad in place of Kamran Ghulam and Shai Pope.

It should be noted that Peshawar Zalmi has played 5 matches so far, out of which they have won two and lost three, while Lahore Qalandars have played four league matches so far, out of which they have faced defeat in only one.
