Islamabad- The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Wednesday that the moon for Rabi ul Awwal 1446 Hijri was not sighted across Pakistan. As a result, the Islamic month will commence on Friday, September 6, 2024 and Eid Milad un Nabi on Sept 17 Tuesday.
The announcement followed a moon sighting committee meeting held in Islamabad, presided over by the committee chairman, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.
“We did not receive any credible reports of moon sighting, and the committee, with consensus, has decided that Rabi ul Awwal will begin on Friday, September 6,” said Maulana Azad in a press conference following the meeting.

He noted that most parts of the country experienced cloudy weather, though some areas had clear skies. Despite this, no credible moon sightings were reported from any region.
The meeting concluded with a special prayer for the unity of the Muslim Ummah, the protection of the holy cities of Makkah and Madina, the security and stability of Pakistan, and the liberation of occupied Kashmir and Palestine.
Eid Milad un Nabi (PBUH), the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), will be observed on Tuesday, September 17. This important day in the Islamic calendar is commemorated with public processions, events, and seminars highlighting the Seerah (life) of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The 12th of Rabi ul Awwal is also a public holiday in Pakistan, with all government offices, educational institutions, and private organizations remaining closed.
