ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has resigned as the senior vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
According to media reports citing sources, the senior leader has stepped down after the PML-N decided to elevate Maryam Nawaz to the senior vice president’s post and make her the party’s chief organiser.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has, however, said that he has only resigned as the PML-N senior vice president and will always remain with the party.
The former PM is said to be unhappy with the fact that the decision regarding Maryam Nawaz was taken without consulting other party members and sources said he resigned soon after Nawaz Sharif’s daughter was given the new assignment in PML-N.
