Rawalpindi: Police on Thursday took Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shehryar Khan Afridi into custody soon after he was released from Adiala Jail.
Afridi was released from Adiala Jail after the Lahore High Court in Rawalpindi released him on bail and declared his detention illegal.
Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, Shehryar Afridi’s lawyer Chaudhry Ishtiaq said that shortly after his release from jail, the police arrested him again and he was not allowed to speak.
The PTI leader was arrested in connection with the May 9 riots.
Earlier, the Rawalpindi court had ordered the immediate release of Shehryar Afridi, Farrukh Afridi, Nadia Hussain and Shah Jahan.
Judge Anwar-ul-Haq Pannu declared the deputy commissioner’s order to detain the PTI leaders for 15 days unconstitutional and illegal.
The court stressed that it would not tolerate any unlawful action against individuals.
Shehryar Afridi was taken into custody at his Islamabad residence on May 16 on the pretext of maintaining public order.
