Sheikh Rashid Challenges Arrest, Files Petition with Lahore High Court

Lahore: Sheikh Rashid, the prominent leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML), has taken a bold step in his legal battle by filing a petition with the Lahore High Court on Monday, contesting his recent arrest. The move comes amid growing concerns over the circumstances surrounding his detention.

Sheikh Rashid’s legal representatives, Sardar Razzak and Sardar Shehbaz, officially submitted the petition on his behalf. The respondents named in the case include key law enforcement figures such as the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab, the Regional Police Officer (RPO), the Chief Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) of Rawalpindi, and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations.

In the submitted plea, it was strongly asserted that Punjab police had taken Sheikh Rashid into custody without the presentation of any arrest warrants. Furthermore, the plea highlighted the fact that Sheikh Rashid had been held at an undisclosed location. Remarkably, there are no existing charges against the AML leader, nor has any ongoing investigation been disclosed in this regard.

With the petition, the Lahore High Court has been urged to issue orders for Sheikh Rashid’s appearance before the court and to grant him the opportunity to exercise his legal rights, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding his arrest and detention.

Sheikh Rashid’s Arrest:
Former Interior Minister and AML leader, Sheikh Rashid, was arrested at his residence in Rawalpindi, sparking concerns over the manner in which his detention transpired. Sardar Abdurrazaq, legal counsel for the former minister, confirmed that Sheikh Rashid was apprehended by plain-clothes officers from his residence. Notably, two nephews of Sheikh Rashid were also arrested in connection with the same incident and taken to an undisclosed location.

As the legal battle unfolds, observers are closely watching the Lahore High Court’s response to Sheikh Rashid’s petition, which seeks to address the circumstances surrounding his arrest and the assertion of his legal rights.
