Sheikh Rashid’s nomination papers for NA-26 by-polls challenged

Rawalpindi: The decision to approve the nomination papers of former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed was challenged in the Election Commission.

Constituency NA 62 candidate Azmat Mubarak Advocate challenged the papers.

According to the petitioner, there are serious allegations against Sheikh Rasheed and he has not fully disclosed his assets. The RO has put a question mark on the clean, free and impartial election of the Election Commission by not conducting proper scrutiny.

Many criminal cases are registered against Sheikh Rasheed, a candidate cannot contest elections if he is involved in criminal cases. Apart from Murree, Islamabad, there are also cases in other cities, while there is no proof of ownership of Lal Haveli.

According to Azmat Mubarak Advocate, the institutions were not examined by the RO, it is necessary for the candidate to appear at the appointed time in the process of scrutiny. The approval of Sheikh Rasheed’s nomination papers gives an impression of pressure.

The petitioner says that if Sheikh Rasheed resigned himself, then on what basis is he announcing to contest the assembly elections while the High Court has stopped the process. Sheikh Rasheed is becoming a security risk for the opposition candidates by playing with the sentiments of the people and gaining sympathy.

Candidate Azmat Mubarak said that if the application is rejected, they will go to the Election Tribunal and the High Court.
