Sher Afzal Marwat Admits Flawed Decisions Cost Party 80+ Seats

In a candid admission, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Sher Afzal Marwat has revealed that the party suffered a significant setback, losing over 80 seats in national and provincial assemblies, attributing the losses to internal missteps.

Speaking on Geo News’ program “Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath” on Thursday, Marwat highlighted two critical decisions that he believes led to PTI’s electoral setbacks following the February 8 elections.

Sher Afzal Marwat pointed out that PTI’s decision to withdraw from forming an electoral alliance with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Shirani (JUI-Shirani) and subsequently striking a deal with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-Nazriati (PTI-N) proved detrimental to the party’s electoral prospects.

The PTI leader emphasized the need for an internal inquiry to ascertain responsibility for these decisions, suggesting that had they not been made, the party could have retained its electoral symbol and contested elections from the JUI-S platform.

The loss of PTI’s electoral symbol ahead of the elections, declared invalid by the Election Commission of Pakistan due to discrepancies in intra-party polls, compounded the party’s electoral challenges.

Furthermore, Marwat identified PTI’s alliance with Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) as another significant mistake, leading the party to ally with Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) due to perceived threats.

Consequently, Marwat lamented that these flawed decisions resulted in PTI’s loss of over 80 seats, highlighting the need for introspection and corrective measures within the party.
