The price of private wheat in South Punjab decreased by Rs 3800 per maund, while in Central Punjab the price of wheat decreased by around Rs 4300 per maund, despite the fact that buying and selling remained low.
According to Leading News, during the last 3 days, the price of private wheat in Punjab has decreased from 5200 rupees, the price of a 15 kg bag of private flour has also decreased to 200 rupees, the price in southern Punjab is 1800 rupees, while the price in Central Punjab including Lahore. 2,000 rupees was recorded in Punjab, besides, the Food Department has taken action against 296 flour mills involved in illegal transfer of flour during the crackdown against smugglers and hoarders across Punjab.
A fine of Rs 4 crore has been imposed on flour mills while 29 thousand tonnes of wheat have been seized after thwarting smuggling attempts, while 4157 tonnes of wheat stored in secret warehouses have also been recovered.
1500 FIRs have been registered in the crime of smuggling and hoarding, 244 freight vehicles have been stopped, while 201 cases have been registered against wheat hoarding, while 647 cases of wheat smuggling have been registered. 666 cases have been registered in the crime.
Sources say that Rawalpindi is at the top in registering cases, on which Secretary and Director Food Punjab has appreciated the performance of Deputy Director Food Rawalpindi Division Salman Ali and District Food Controller Rawalpindi Sufyan.
Moreover, flour mills in Lahore and food department have reached an agreement on the issue of private wheat milling, flour mills will mill private wheat equal to their government wheat quota and supply 15 kg private flour bags in additional quantity.
