Siraj ul Haq Announces Nationwide Strike in Protest of Inflated Electricity Bills

Lahore: In a positive development, Sirajul Haq, the leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, has declared a nationwide strike scheduled for September 2 to peacefully protest against the issue of inflated electricity bills.

Addressing a public gathering in Lahore, he made the announcement of peaceful demonstrations that will take place outside WAPDA offices throughout the country.

He emphatically stated, “The 224 million Pakistanis are not subservient to the IMF. We will not endure further oppression and injustice. We have shown remarkable resilience.”

Haq added, “The nation stands united to assert its rights, and our goal is the realization of an Islamic democratic revolution.”

In a display of solidarity, protests resonated across various cities on Sunday, as citizens voiced their concerns about the rising electricity costs. The demonstrators, carrying placards, echoed slogans of dissent against the government’s policies.

They appealed to the government to alleviate the financial burden on the public by eliminating extra taxes, providing much-needed relief to the population grappling with high inflation.

These protests took place in numerous locations including Multan, Faisalabad, Nowshera, Bahawalpur, Sadiq Abad, Hujra Shah Muqeem, Okara, Kasur, Malakand, and Gujranwala, reflecting the widespread public sentiment.
