Islamabad: The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has recommended the termination of the service of former Supreme Court Judge Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi after finding him guilty of misconduct.
Last month, Justice (retd) Naqvi resigned from his position amid allegations of misconduct, a move that raised eyebrows within the legal community. The resignation was followed by the unexpected departure of Justice (retd) Ijazul Ahsan, fueling speculation about the reasons behind their abrupt exits.

The decision to recommend Justice Mazahir Naqvi’s removal from office comes after thorough deliberations by the Supreme Judicial Council, led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa. The council, comprising esteemed members including Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, meticulously reviewed multiple complaints against judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts.
The statement from the judicial body highlighted that six separate complaints were scrutinized, with the majority being dismissed due to lack of merit. However, in the case of Justice Mazahir Naqvi, the council found sufficient evidence to support allegations of misconduct, leading to the recommendation for termination.
