Dubai: Already known for adding a new dimension to Dubai’s contemporary creative scene, multi-functional immersive event and art space kanvas is continuing to blaze a trail with its multi-generational appeal.
Just in time for the festive season and school holidays, kanvas have launched Art in Light, an interactive workshop for children. Conceived with inquisitive young minds in mind, Art in Light shines a literal light on the wonder of the oft forgotten about yet endlessly fascinating old-fashioned overhead projector.
The forward-thinking founders of kanvas firmly believe that art transcends generations and that it’s never too early to involve children in artistic processes. With its focus on interaction and imagination, Art in Light exemplifies this idea and is a brilliant example of engaging edutainment and the importance of learning through play.
Over the course of an hour-long session, small groups of children between six and 12-years old are invited to discover a sensory world filled with shapes, textures, colours and patterns, all created by light projection.
Cleverly divided into different, easily digestible sections (a deliberate move designed with short attention spans in mind), the family-friendly workshop starts conversations and sparks imaginations. Young attendees are given the opportunity to experiment with colour mixing and transformation, experience pattern projections, explore the effect of different textures on mirrored surfaces, conduct experiments, create sand art and more.
While children are entertained and enthralled by Art in Light, parents meanwhile can revel in their very own art experience, taking in the globally-renowned and critically acclaimed Lighthouse in Dubai exhibition. Curated by the internationally revered 3D artist and video mapping specialist Laszlo Zsolt Bordos, Lighthouse showcases artwork that explores the idea of the constancy of change through light. With a series of seven awe-inspiring installations (esteemed exhibiting artists include the likes of Gáspár Battha, Erik Mátrai, András Nagy and Gábor Kitzinger) the exhibit combines analog and digital technologies and notions of reflection, refraction and light interaction to astounding effect.
With its unique opportunity for both adults and children to enjoy specially curated art and cultural experiences at the same time, kanvas is an awe-inspiring one-stop must visit for art loving parents and their offspring during the festive period and beyond.
