Sweden sweep past Serbia and into women’s Euros after 6-0 win

Sweden crushed Serbia 6-0 in Stockholm, securing an 8-0 aggregate victory to qualify for next year’s Women’s European Championship finals in Switzerland. They will be joined by Norway and Finland, who also triumphed in Tuesday’s playoff matches.

In front of 12,378 fans sheltered from freezing temperatures by a closed stadium roof, Sweden ended Serbia’s hopes with a four-goal blitz in the first half. Filippa Angeldahl started the scoring with a penalty in the 16th minute, followed by Kosovare Asllani’s quick strike and two goals from Stina Blackstenius. Hanna Bennison and Anna Anvegård added second-half goals to complete the win.

The team also celebrated Caroline Seger, Sweden’s legendary player who recently retired after 240 appearances and two Olympic silver medals.

Elsewhere, Norway defeated Northern Ireland 3-0 (7-0 aggregate), and Finland edged past Scotland with a 2-0 home win.

Portugal and Poland also advanced after close matches, while Belgium and Wales sealed their spots with hard-fought victories. Wales made history by qualifying for their first major tournament, beating Ireland 3-2 on aggregate.
