Terrorist groups in Afghanistan security threat for Pakistan

UN – Pakistani Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Munir Akram, delivered a comprehensive briefing to the UN Security Council, shedding light on the evolving security situation in Pakistan, with a particular focus on the persistent threat posed by terrorist groups operating from across the border in Afghanistan.

Ambassador Akram underscored the alarming actions of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has carried out a series of cross-border terrorist attacks within Pakistan, resulting in casualties among both soldiers and civilians. In a concerning development, Akram reported that the TTP has gained access to advanced military equipment, seemingly procured from the stockpiles left behind by foreign forces in Afghanistan.

Additionally, Ambassador Akram addressed the formidable challenges presented by the presence of millions of Afghan refugees in Pakistan. He emphasized the need for international cooperation between the global community and the Afghan Interim Government to facilitate the repatriation of all illegal Afghan refugees. Despite these complex issues, Akram reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the belief that engagement and cooperation represent the most viable path to fostering a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan.

Ambassador Akram also reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to the overarching goal of a world free of nuclear weapons. He expressed Pakistan’s support for international initiatives aimed at promoting equitable and just solutions to disarmament and non-proliferation challenges. Pakistan’s commitment to a nuclear-weapons-free world remains a cornerstone of its foreign policy.

The briefing provided a critical platform for the international community to gain insights into Pakistan’s security concerns and its commitment to regional peace and stability. As the region navigates complex security dynamics, Pakistan continues to advocate for collaborative efforts that prioritize the well-being and security of all nations involved.
