Three women found dead in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Karachi

One man discovered unconscious; Sindh home minister orders transparent investigation

KARACHI: Three women were found dead inside a house in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 1 on Sunday, while a man was recovered in an unconscious state, police and rescue officials said.

Initial observations suggested the deaths may have occurred due to suffocation from a suspected gas leak, according to a police statement. However, investigators said all possible angles were being examined.

SSP East said the victims were a mother, her daughter, and daughter-in-law, adding that the family’s young son alerted police after discovering the situation. The official noted that, at first glance, the women appeared to have died after consuming a toxic substance, though no decisive evidence has been found so far.

The head of the household was also present but was reportedly not in a stable mental condition, making initial questioning difficult.

Police said the exact cause of death will be determined after post-mortem examinations. The family had recently relocated to Gulshan-e-Iqbal from Ranchor Line.

Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar took notice of the incident and directed the SSP East to ensure a transparent investigation.

Karachi has reported several gas-related incidents in recent months. In November, a gas leakage explosion in Korangi No 6 left a woman severely injured, who later succumbed to her burns. Later that month, a similar blast occurred in Ranchore Line, injuring a couple and their two daughters.
