Unprovoked Firing at Pak-AfghanBorder Claims Lives of Two Pakistani Citizens

Islamabad –  In a tragic incident at the Chaman border crossing along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, an Afghan sentry opened unprovoked and indiscriminate fire at pedestrians making their way from Pakistan to Afghanistan, resulting in the unfortunate loss of two innocent Pakistani lives.

According to a statement released by the Pakistan Army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the incident occurred at the outbound gate situated on the zero line. Tragically, two Pakistani citizens, including a 12-year-old child, lost their lives, and another child sustained injuries as a result of the indiscriminate firing.

The ISPR reported that Pakistani troops exercised extreme restraint and refrained from engaging in any exchange of fire in the presence of innocent passengers to prevent collateral damage.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the district headquarters hospital in Chaman, while the injured child, who was swiftly evacuated by security forces, is currently receiving medical treatment.

In response to the incident, Pakistani authorities have approached Afghan counterparts, seeking an inquiry into this irresponsible and reckless act and urging the apprehension and extradition of the perpetrator to Pakistani authorities. The ISPR also called on the Afghan government to exercise control over its troops and instill discipline to ensure responsible conduct and prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

While Pakistan remains dedicated to contributing to peace, prosperity, and development through positive and constructive bilateral relations with Afghanistan, the ISPR emphasized that such unfortunate occurrences have the potential to undermine sincere intentions and purposes.

This incident underscores the importance of maintaining peace and security along the border, and both nations are urged to work together to prevent such tragic events in the future, allowing the region to progress towards stability and cooperation.
