A delegation comprising three members from the American Embassy visited Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to meet with Zahir Jafar, the convicted individual in the tragic Noor Muqaddam murder case.
Zahir Jafar, a Pakistani-American, has been in custody since the horrific incident involving the brutal killing of Noor Muqaddam, daughter of former Pakistani ambassador Shaukat Muqaddam. The gruesome details of the murder shocked the nation when they surfaced on July 20, 2021. Noor Muqaddam was subjected to torture and beheading at Jafar’s residence.

In February 2023, a local court in Islamabad sentenced Zahir Jafar to death for his role in the crime. While his parents were acquitted of involvement, Zahir Jafar faced the full weight of the law.
The court’s verdict included a death sentence and a fine of Rs 500,000 for the murder charge. Additionally, he received a 25-year prison term and a fine of Rs 200,000 for forced rape, along with a 10-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 100,000 for kidnapping.
Furthermore, the court ordered Zahir Jafar to pay the fines to the victim’s family.
The recent visit by the American Embassy delegation indicates ongoing interest in the case from international stakeholders.
