US reaffirms support for Pakistan’s fight against terrorism

Islamabad: On Thursday, Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi held a productive meeting with US Acting Ambassador Natalie Baker to discuss key aspects of Pakistan-US relations, focusing on counter-terrorism efforts and mutual cooperation. The meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Interior, was attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, US Political Counselor Zach Harkenrider, and Federal Secretary for Interior Khurram Agha.

Ambassador Baker condemned the recent Jaafar Express attack and other terrorist incidents, offering condolences to the families of the victims. She reiterated the United States’ unwavering support for Pakistan’s fight against terrorism and emphasized the importance of global collaboration to address the growing threat of extremism.

The two leaders also discussed plans for a Counter-Terrorism Dialogue scheduled for June, alongside strategies for enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas of security, defense, and regional stability.

During the meeting, Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, emphasizing the country’s commitment to developing a comprehensive counter-terrorism policy. He also acknowledged US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Pakistan’s significant role in the recent arrest of a senior Daesh operative involved in the 2021 Kabul airport bombing, which resulted in the tragic deaths of 13 US service members and at least 170 Afghan civilians.

Ambassador Baker also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s progress in infrastructure and economic development, particularly the ongoing projects in Islamabad, recognizing the country’s commitment to fostering growth and stability.

Another critical issue discussed was the situation of undocumented Pakistanis in the United States. Minister Naqvi assured Ambassador Baker of Pakistan’s full cooperation in ensuring their repatriation.

Looking ahead, the two sides confirmed that the Pak-US Caucus meeting will take place in New York on April 30, aiming to strengthen strategic ties between the two nations.

This meeting underscores the growing and evolving partnership between Pakistan and the United States, particularly in areas of security, counter-terrorism, and regional cooperation, marking a new chapter in the two countries’ diplomatic relations.
