Won’t back off from demand of Constitutional Court: Chairman PPP

Islamabad: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has reiterated his commitment to establishing a Constitutional Court, a key element of Benazir Bhutto’s Charter of Democracy. Speaking at the “Benazir Hari Card” issuance ceremony in Karachi, Bilawal vowed to uphold the promises made by his late mother and former prime minister, Benazir Bhutto.

“We will not forget the promises made by our leader Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. We will save Pakistan by fulfilling the commitments outlined in the Charter of Democracy,” Bilawal stated, emphasizing that the party would not compromise on these pledges.

Highlighting the need for a specialized court to protect constitutional rights, Bilawal said, “We need judges from all four provinces to address constitutional matters together. If not now, when will the Constitutional Court be established? Those asking me to step back should step back themselves.”

Bilawal criticized the country’s judicial system, recalling how it had allowed dictators to manipulate the constitution. He stressed the importance of reforms outlined by Benazir Bhutto in the Charter of Democracy, which aimed to safeguard basic and constitutional rights and prevent the resurgence of dictatorship.

He posed a direct question to the public, asking, “Are you satisfied with the current justice system? If you believe it is perfect, we won’t change a thing. But if you think it is broken and serves injustice, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto has already provided the solutions.”

Bilawal also acknowledged the contributions of JUI-F in the drafting of the constitution, further emphasizing the need for judicial reforms to ensure justice in Pakistan.
