The Security forces of Pakistan successfully repelled a terrorist attack on a checkpost in the Jandola area of South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing 10 militants, including a suicide bomber, on Thursday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The military’s media wing reported that the terrorists attempted to breach the security post Jandola but were effectively engaged by the troops, forcing them to detonate an explosive-laden vehicle against the perimeter wall.
“Our troops fought bravely, effectively engaging the assailants, and after an intense fire exchange, all ten khwarij, including the suicide bomber, were eliminated outside the perimeter wall,” the ISPR stated.
A sanitization operation is currently underway to eliminate any remaining threats in the area, as Pakistan’s security forces remain committed to eradicating terrorism from the country, the statement added.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi lauded the security forces for their swift response and successful repulsion of the Jandola check post attack. He emphasized that the nation stands firmly behind its forces in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

This attack follows closely on the heels of the deadly Jaffar Express hijacking incident in Balochistan’s Bolan district, where security forces neutralized all 33 attackers who had taken passengers hostage. The militants, belonging to the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), had blown up railway tracks and opened fire on the train, leading to the martyrdom of 21 hostages and four security personnel.
Alarming Rise in Terror Incidents
According to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), the country saw a 42% rise in terrorist attacks in January 2025 compared to the previous month. The think tank reported at least 74 militant attacks nationwide, resulting in 91 deaths, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Another 117 people sustained injuries, comprising 53 security personnel, 54 civilians, and 10 militants.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) remains the worst-hit province, followed by Balochistan. The breakdown of attacks in KP includes:
- Settled districts: 27 attacks, 19 fatalities (11 security personnel, 6 civilians, 2 militants).
- Tribal districts (erstwhile FATA): 19 attacks, 46 deaths (13 security personnel, 8 civilians, 25 militants).
Balochistan also witnessed a surge, recording 24 attacks, leading to 26 deaths (11 security personnel, 6 civilians, 9 militants).
Additionally, two suicide bombings took place in Balochistan in January, with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and BLA separately claiming responsibility for the attacks.
Pakistan’s security forces continue their relentless operations to neutralize threats and maintain stability in the region.
