President Dr. Arif Alvi and the Election Commission of Pakistan have reached a consensus to hold the eagerly awaited general elections in the country on February 8, 2024.
This significant agreement on the election date was achieved during a pivotal meeting between President Dr. Arif Alvi and Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, Sikandar Sultan Raja. Also present during this momentous meeting were the Attorney General for Pakistan, Mansoor Usman Awan, and four prominent members of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The decision to fix the date for the upcoming General Elections came as a result of an order issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, Mr. Sikandar Sultan Raja, along with other esteemed officials, arrived at Aiwan-e-Sadr to engage in discussions with President Dr. Arif Alvi regarding the election schedule.
A statement from the President House emphasized the importance of the meeting and its outcomes. It stated, “On the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, Mr. Sikandar Sultan Raja, along with the Attorney General for Pakistan, Mr. Mansoor Usman Awan, and four members of the Election Commission of Pakistan, came to meet President Dr. Arif Alvi, at Aiwan-e-Sadr, to discuss the date for holding the forthcoming General Elections in the country.”
During the meeting, President Alvi was thoroughly briefed on the progress made by the Election Commission in various aspects, including delimitation and election preparations. Following a comprehensive and detailed discussion, the participants unanimously agreed to set the date for the General Elections in the country on February 8, 2024.
