ERRA reinforces importance of protecting creative rights

Association participating in Sharjah International Book Fair with dedicated pavilion

SHARJAH: In an effort to bolster its position in disseminating knowledge and safeguarding creativity, the Emirates Reprographic Rights Management Association (ERRA) is actively participating in the 42nd edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair with its dedicated pavilion.

The Association will welcome writers and publishers, giving them insights into its objectives, ongoing initiatives, and prospects. Furthermore, it will present an exclusive opportunity for individuals interested in becoming members to register during the exhibition taking place until November 12.

As part of the Association’s mission to promote the legal and appropriate use of published content, its team will be familiarising book fair visitors with copyrighting, highlighting its pivotal role in preserving the efforts of content creators, upholding creative rights, and actively fostering the advancement of the publishing industry while also fostering the growth of the creative economy. The Association will also highlight its role in supporting a stimulating environment for creative industries, ensuring the protection of the rights of publishers and authors.

As part of ERRA’s participation, it will organise ‘Writers and Publishers: Navigating Creativity and Copyright’, a panel discussion that will feature prominent figures such as Alia Al Shamsi, Vice Chairperson of ERRA’s Board of Directors; esteemed advisor Dr Mohammed Al Kamali, a member of the Association’s Board of Directors renowned for his expertise in copyright matters; and Majd Al Shehhi, Director of ERRA. The primary objective is to shed light on the creative industry’s hurdles regarding copyright violations and delve into the solutions advocated by the Association, which is well-regarded for its leading role as a collective management organisation.

Majd Al Shehhi, highlighting the Association’s participation at the book fair, said: “At ERRA, we strongly believe that our culture thrives when literary works are accessible without infringing upon copyrights; with this principle at heart, we are committed to disseminating awareness on this matter and enriching the experiences of both creators and consumers. The Sharjah International Book Fair offers an ideal platform for us to realise this mission, which is why we are organising a dialogue session to introduce our pivotal role in this field to the widest possible audience, encouraging those interested to join us in safeguarding their rights and augmenting their creative output.”

“Through our participation in this global event, we seek to convey a vital message to our audience: without respecting the rights of creative works, there won’t be any books left for us to read. Can you imagine such a world?”
