LAHORE: The 8th Maritime Security Workshop (MARSEW-8) commenced at the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore, formally inaugurated by Commandant Rear Admiral Sohail Ahmad Azmie.
In his welcome address, Rear Admiral Azmie highlighted the strategic importance of leveraging Pakistan’s maritime potential in a changing global landscape. He noted that since its inception in 2017, MARSEW has evolved into a premier national forum for knowledge sharing and continues to promote a whole-of-nation approach to strengthening Pakistan’s maritime sector and blue economy.
Organized under the auspices of the Pakistan Navy, MARSEW-8 aims to enhance strategic understanding of contemporary maritime security challenges and raise national awareness of the country’s blue economy potential. The workshop brings together parliamentarians, policymakers, senior civil and military leadership, academia, media professionals, entrepreneurs, and the business community to foster dialogue, cross-sector collaboration, and innovative policy solutions for sustainable ocean governance.
Scheduled from December 2 to 12, 2025, the workshop will feature interactive sessions in Lahore, followed by field visits to major Pakistan Navy installations in Karachi, coastal areas, and creeks. Participants will also visit Naval Headquarters, the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA), and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs (MoMA) in Islamabad.
Key themes of MARSEW-8 include maritime awareness, coastal development, marine resource security, critical undersea infrastructure, international maritime law, and the role of the maritime sector in enhancing national resilience.
