ISLAMABAD: Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday for a two-day official visit as his aircraft landed at Nur Khan Airbase.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar received the visiting leader upon his arrival.
A 21-gun salute was presented in honour of the Kazakh president, while children dressed in traditional attire welcomed him with bouquets.
President Tokayev is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior cabinet members and other top officials.
During his visit, the Kazakh president is scheduled to hold meetings with his Pakistani counterpart and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He will also address the Pakistan-Kazakhstan Business Forum.
In a statement issued earlier, the Foreign Office said the visit would provide both sides with a timely opportunity to comprehensively review bilateral relations and explore new avenues of cooperation, particularly in trade, logistics, regional connectivity, and people-to-people contacts.
The statement added that the visit reflects the growing strength of ties between Pakistan and Kazakhstan, their shared commitment to converting historical and cultural linkages into practical cooperation, and their common pursuit of peace and development in the region.
In September last year, Pakistan and Kazakhstan signed an Action Plan of Cooperation during the visit of then Kazakh deputy prime minister Murat Nurtleu to Islamabad, aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations.
