ISLAMABAD: The Balochistan government has decided to send acid attack victim Dr Mahnoor Nasir to the United States for specialised treatment after approving her overseas medical care.
An official said on Friday that Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti had approved the move and directed authorities to complete the necessary arrangements.
Balochistan Chief Minister’s aide Shahid Rind said the Chief Minister Secretariat had formally issued a letter to the relevant authorities to begin the process.
According to Rind, Dr Mahnoor will continue receiving treatment at a private hospital in Karachi for another week before arrangements for her transfer to the United States are finalised.
He said the provincial government was utilising all available resources to ensure the doctor receives the best possible medical treatment and care.
Dr Mahnoor is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Karachi after she was shifted from Quetta earlier this month following the acid attack at Civil Hospital.
Police had said the suspect involved in the attack was later killed in an encounter.
Medical sources said reconstructive surgeons and eye specialists had completed their assessment after her arrival in Karachi.
According to the assessment, Dr Mahnoor sustained burns to her face, abdomen, legs and right hand, with approximately 13% of her body affected. Although the acid also injured her eyes, doctors said her eyesight remained intact.
Earlier, Chief Minister Bugti announced a civil award for hospital staff member Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, who rushed to help Dr Mahnoor during the attack.
In a statement, the chief minister praised Tarakai’s courage, humanity and dedication to duty, describing him as a valuable asset to society and announcing that he would receive a civil award in recognition of his bravery.
