ISLAMABAD: Czechia is increasingly emerging as a preferred summer travel destination for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) tourists as temperatures rise across the region, offering visitors a cooler climate along with cultural heritage, scenic landscapes and seasonal festivals.
Renowned for its historic towns, UNESCO-listed sites and wellness tourism, Czechia is positioning itself as an alternative summer getaway for travellers seeking both relaxation and cultural exploration beyond traditional European destinations.
Apart from its capital Prague, the country features more than 1,200 castles and châteaux along with popular tourist spots including Český Krumlov, Brno and the spa city of Karlovy Vary, attracting families, couples and luxury travellers alike.
From July to August, Czechia hosts a wide range of cultural and entertainment events, including open-air music festivals such as the Bohemia Jazz Fest, the Summer Shakespeare Festival staged in historic castle venues, and Prague Folklore Days showcasing international music and dance performances.
Historic castles across the country are also transformed into cultural venues during seasonal events such as Castle–Château Night, which features evening tours, live performances and theatrical displays.
Western Bohemia’s spa regions, particularly Karlovy Vary, continue to attract global attention with events such as the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, combining wellness tourism with international cultural programming.
The country also promotes outdoor and nature-based tourism, including hiking, cycling trails, river cruises on the Vltava, open-air cinemas and regional festivals such as the Telč Holidays Festival.
Seasonal culinary events such as the Blueberry Festival in July and Cucumber Festival in August further highlight Czechia’s local gastronomy and cultural traditions.
Speaking on the growing interest from GCC markets, CzechTourism’s International Marketing Manager Barbara Andelová said Czechia continues to appeal strongly to travellers seeking authentic and climate-friendly experiences, with increasing demand for regional destinations, wellness retreats and cultural tourism.
She said improved air connectivity from Gulf countries has played a key role in boosting visitor numbers, with direct flights operated by airlines including Emirates, flydubai and Air Arabia from the UAE, Qatar Airways from Qatar, and flynas, flyadeal and Jazeera Airways providing additional regional connectivity.
Tourism authorities said the expanding flight network offers greater flexibility for GCC travellers, supporting both direct and one-stop travel options during the peak summer season.
They added that Czechia is continuing to develop curated travel packages and promotional campaigns targeting GCC markets, aiming to strengthen its position as a leading European summer destination for visitors seeking culture, leisure and wellness experiences.
