WEB DESK: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Monday met a visiting US delegation comprising House of Representatives members Ryan Keith Zinke from Montana and Michael James from Washington at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, including regional security, defence cooperation, bilateral economic relations and opportunities to enhance collaboration between Pakistan and the United States.
The US lawmakers appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional stability and economic resilience, acknowledging Islamabad’s role in supporting peace-building initiatives and maintaining security in the region.
Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted Pakistan’s economic potential and stressed that sustainable regional stability was closely linked with economic development, increased trade and stronger regional connectivity.
He also briefed the delegation on Pakistan’s ongoing structural reforms aimed at improving the business environment, attracting foreign investment and creating opportunities for economic growth.
Both sides discussed measures to expand bilateral economic cooperation, encourage private-sector partnerships and enhance trade relations between Pakistan and the United States.
The US representatives thanked Pakistan’s military leadership for the hospitality extended during their visit and expressed their desire to further strengthen economic, trade and institutional ties between the two countries.
The lawmakers, who arrived in Pakistan last week, expressed optimism about the future of Pakistan-US relations during their visit.
Speaking to state media, Michael James said bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United States were “going to be stronger”, while Ryan Zinke said the relationship between the two countries “has never been better”.
The delegation also visited Lahore, where members paid tribute at the Mausoleum of Allama Iqbal and toured historic landmarks including the Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort. They were briefed on Pakistan’s history, architecture and cultural heritage.
The US lawmakers praised Lahore’s cultural significance, with one delegation member describing the city as highly impressive and encouraging Americans to visit Pakistan.
The delegation also appreciated Lahore’s security arrangements and expressed interest in cooperation in areas including education, tourism, transportation, cultural exchanges and broader bilateral engagement.
