ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday visited the Embassy of Nepal in Islamabad and expressed solidarity with the people of Nepal following devastating flash floods and landslides that claimed lives and caused widespread destruction.
The prime minister signed the condolence book at the embassy in memory of those who lost their lives in the natural disaster.
He conveyed Pakistan’s deepest sympathies to the government and people of Nepal, as well as to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy.
Shehbaz reiterated the solidarity he had earlier expressed to Nepali Prime Minister Balendra Shah during a telephone conversation following the disaster.
During his meeting with Nepal’s Ambassador to Pakistan Rita Dhital, the prime minister said Pakistan would send emergency relief assistance to Nepal later this week to support ongoing rescue and relief efforts.
He assured the ambassador of Pakistan’s continued support and expressed hope that the resilient people of Nepal would overcome the tragedy and emerge stronger.
The prime minister underscored the close and longstanding fraternal ties between Pakistan and Nepal, saying the two countries would continue to stand by each other in times of need.
Ambassador Dhital thanked Shehbaz for Pakistan’s support and said the gesture would be long remembered by the people of Nepal.
She also briefed the prime minister on the current state of bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Nepal.
The prime minister was accompanied by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch and other senior officials.
