ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday awarded a Rs10 million prize to nurse Razia Noreen in recognition of her bravery and efforts to save a newborn during the devastating fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
The August 26 fire at PIMS claimed the lives of 14 newborns, leaving families and healthcare workers in grief and panic.
Appreciating Noreen’s courage, the prime minister said the nation needed courageous women like her who were willing to risk their own safety to save lives.
During her meeting with the prime minister, Noreen said she would dedicate the award to all PIMS staff members who made every possible effort during and after the hospital fire.
She also pledged to continue performing her duties with the same dedication and commitment.
Prime Minister Shehbaz further announced that Noreen would be awarded the Tamgha-e-Khidmat at the Pakistan Day ceremony on March 23 in recognition of her bravery and service during the PIMS fire.
The award comes as the government continues to recognise individuals who demonstrated courage and dedication during the tragic incident at the hospital.
