Afghan Authorities Confirm arrest of TTP Members

The Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has officially confirmed the apprehension of approximately 40 members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) over the past year. This marks the first public acknowledgment of such arrests by Afghan authorities.

According to spokesperson Abdul Mateen Qani, “We have a large number of ISIS prisoners, and about 35 to 40 TTP terrorists are in our custody.” The successful capture of these TTP operatives was reportedly made possible through intelligence shared by Pakistan, revealing the clandestine locations of the terrorists.

This disclosure follows a recent demand from Pakistan’s foreign office, urging the interim Afghan government to take decisive action against militants within its borders. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan emphasized Afghanistan’s responsibility to prevent the use of its territory for terrorism against Pakistan.

In response, Afghanistan has reiterated its commitment to promptly addressing the issue, promising immediate action if any evidence regarding the presence of TTP elements is found, as reported by Afghan media.

The impact of these arrests on Afghanistan-Pakistan relations remains uncertain. Experts suggest that effective measures taken by Afghanistan to address the issue could potentially lead to an improvement in relations between the two neighboring countries. The situation is evolving, and further developments are awaited. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
