Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari confirmed on Friday that he would attend breakfast at the invitation of former US President Donald Trump in a personal capacity.
Bilawal made this statement while responding to a query about his invitation to attend an event linked to the new US administration. He clarified that he would participate in the annual National Prayer Breakfast.
“As far as my US visit is concerned, this is completely true and this news was reported by media, but you should ask the media about its origin,” he stated.
The PPP Chairman highlighted that this trip aligns with a longstanding tradition from his late mother’s time. “I will definitely go for breakfast, a practice that’s continued from my mother’s tenure. There’s a possibility of holding meetings with friends of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto there [as well],” he said.
Bilawal emphasized that his visit was personal and not in any official or governmental capacity. “Neither I’m a minister nor a government official, so this trip of mine is not official or as a representative of the government,” he clarified.
It is pertinent to mention that PPP Co-chairman and former President Asif Ali Zardari had attended the pre-inauguration oath ceremony of then-US President-elect Donald Trump in Washington, DC, in 2017.
When asked about his party’s political stance, Bilawal affirmed that the PPP would not become part of the cabinet. Additionally, he expressed confidence that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would complete his five-year term, stating, “Insha’Allah, the prime minister will complete his term.”
Addressing a separate query about the geopolitical situation, Bilawal noted the importance of inviting Indian representatives in the context of US-China relations. “It is essential that a representative from India was invited after extending an invitation to the Chinese president, given the geopolitical situation between the US and China,” he said.
Bilawal also reiterated his party’s pride in Pakistan’s achievements. “Pakistan’s nuclear assets and missile technology are gifts from Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto,” he added.
