Deputy PM Dar Leads Pakistan Delegation to OIC Summit

OIC member states to meet in Gambia from May 4 to 5.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has arrived in Banjul, Gambia, to spearhead Pakistan’s representation at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation OIC summit. He is set to address pressing issues including the ongoing plight in Gaza and the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

In his statement upon arrival, Deputy PM Dar expressed his commitment to representing Pakistan’s stance at the 15th OIC Summit and engaging in bilateral discussions with dignitaries from member countries.

Welcomed by Gambian officials and Pakistani representatives, Dar’s agenda includes participation in the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting preceding the Summit to finalize crucial agenda items and outcome documents.

During his engagements, Dar will advocate for collective solutions to challenges facing the Muslim Ummah, emphasizing solidarity, unity, and addressing rising Islamophobia, climate change, terrorism, and other global issues.

Highlighting the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the right to self-determination for the people of IIOJK, Dar aims to garner support for the Palestinian cause and reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to their inalienable rights.

Scheduled bilateral meetings with leaders and foreign ministers attending the summit will further facilitate dialogue and cooperation among member states.

The upcoming OIC summit follows the condemnation of Israel’s military aggression in Gaza earlier this year, signaling the forum’s unwavering support for Palestinians’ rights and sovereignty. It serves as a crucial platform for member states to unite and address the dire situation in Gaza and advocate for a just resolution to the Palestinian question.
