Drug crime will not be sentenced to death, amendment bill passed

Islamabad: The Anti -Drug Amendment Bill 2022 has been approved in the National Assembly, in which the death sentence has been converted to life imprisonment.

At the Assembly meeting under the chairmanship of Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf, Law Minister Nazir Tarar presented the amendment to Section 9 of Article 2 of the Anti -drug content law. Through which the death sentence was converted to life imprisonment.

The law minister said that the death penalty is used inappropriately under the CNSA, which is a violation of human rights.

In drug cases, innocent people are at risk of being sentenced to death; under the aforementioned law, the application based on the death sentence cannot be ruled out.

JUIF, on the other hand, opposed the abolition of the death sentence from the anti -drug content. Speaking in opposition to the bill in the National Assembly, JUI member Aaliyah Kamran said that the amendment could not be supported by the amendment, there is no other thought behind this amendment, such as drug abuses, on committing a crime. The death penalty law is driven by books, and reduction of such abominable crime is disgusted.
