Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to remove the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from office.
Various Pakistani media reported on Monday afternoon that the ECP had decided to remove the PTI chairman from his post following his conviction in the Toshakhana case.
The media reports said the decision was taken at a meeting of the ECP on Monday, August 7, and that a notification to that effect would be issued later in the day.
The reports were carried by leading news media.
Meanwhile, the ECP issued a counter-statement after the news appeared on the social media platform “X,” formerly known as Twitter. The commission said that no such decision has been taken or is being considered.
