Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has given instructions to hold local body elections in Islamabad in the month of Ramadan.
Attorney General Ishtar Ausaf had a meeting with Election Commission officials on the issue of holding local body elections in Islamabad on the court order, in which Director General Law Election Commission, Special Secretary also participated.
In the meeting, consultations were held in the context of the order of the Islamabad High Court. According to the sources, the Election Commission has indicated that the local elections will be held in the month of Ramadan, saying that in 1997, the general elections were also held in the month of Ramadan.
According to the sources, the Election Commission will also consult with the Ministry of Interior regarding the Islamabad Local Government Elections apart from the Attorney General.
Earlier, the court directed the Election Commission to hold a meeting with the federal government today and said that the Election Commission should give the timeline for the local government elections in the hearing tomorrow and that it should not be asked to hold the elections in June 2023.
The court had remarked that tomorrow if we come to the conclusion that the election will not be held on December 31, we will look at your timeline.
