ECP Transfers cases of PML-N lawmakers to new election Tribunals

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has approved petitions from three Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmakers seeking the transfer of their election cases to different election tribunals. The cases involve allegations of vote rigging during the 2024 nationwide elections.

The The Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision came in response to requests from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) Anjum Aqeel Khan, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, and Khurram Shehzad Nawaz. Their election victories in Islamabad constituencies had been challenged by three Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidates — Muhammad Ali Bokhari, Shoaib Shaheen, and Aamir Mughal — who alleged poll manipulation.

The ECP’s four-member bench, headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, reserved its verdict on June 7, which was announced today. The commission ordered the transfer of the cases to other tribunals to ensure a fair hearing of the pending petitions against the Muslim League N lawmakers’ victories.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had previously suspended the victory notifications of the PML-N lawmakers while their petitions were under review by the election tribunals. The PML-N leaders expressed a lack of confidence in the original tribunals, prompting their request for a transfer.
