Karachi: There is a fear of terrorism during local elections in Karachi and Hyderabad, the police officials have informed the Election Commission about this.
According to Leading News, the important meeting related to local body elections in Karachi and Hyderabad was chaired by Chief Secretary Sindh Sohail Rajput. IG Sindh along with Secretary of Election Commission Umar Hameed and other officials participated in the meeting where a briefing was given regarding the arrangements for local body elections.
The police officials told the meeting that there are law and order problems in the province, they are ready to make arrangements but there are security risks and there are threats from banned organizations. There is a fear of peace and order in the cities due to the deployment.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Election Commission Secretary Umar Hameed said that a clear decision of the Election Commission has come, now there is no reason for local government elections to be postponed.
Umar Hameed said that he has taken a briefing on security from the Sindh government, better security arrangements have been made, there are threat alerts but there is no need to panic, there will be foolproof security during the elections.
In response to a question, he said that the government is aware of its responsibilities, conducting elections is a national duty, people of Karachi and Hyderabad should prepare for elections, everything will be fine.
He said that there will be sufficient number of police and rangers, there is no need to panic, threat alert is reported but it is not something serious.
