RAWALPINDI: Four terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation in Kalat, while an army major embraced martyrdom in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack during a separate clearance operation in Gwadar, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday.
According to the military’s media wing, intelligence agencies had reported multiple hideouts of Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Hindustan in the areas of Jattakabad in Kalat district and Shadi Kaur in Pasni tehsil of Gwadar district, posing a threat to the local population.
In the first incident, security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in Jattakabad on October 18. During the operation, troops engaged the terrorists’ location, killing four terrorists after an intense exchange of fire. A large cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered, the ISPR said.
In a separate development, security forces carried out a series of clearance operations in Shadi Kaur, Pasni, Gwadar. During one of the operations, the lead force component, led by Major Wajahat Waheed, 34, a resident of Lahore, was targeted by an IED.
The officer embraced martyrdom while performing his duties, the ISPR said.
The military’s media wing said sanitisation operations would continue to eliminate any other terrorists found in the areas.
It added that the counterterrorism campaign under the vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam”, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, would continue at full pace.
The ISPR reaffirmed that security forces and law enforcement agencies remained committed to eliminating foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country.
