Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the vital role of a free, informed, and responsible press as the cornerstone of any democratic society. In his message on the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, he paid tribute to journalists who have upheld the truth despite challenges and hardships.
“The day reminds us that free, informed, and responsible journalism forms the foundation of a democratic society,” the prime minister said. “Journalists enable public access to facts and serve as torchbearers of truth. Any act of violence, intimidation, or reprisal against them is, in fact, an assault on freedom of expression.”
The prime minister expressed solidarity with the families of journalists and media workers who lost their lives in the line of duty, acknowledging their courage and sacrifice for truth and accountability.

Calling for global cooperation, the prime minister urged the international community, media organizations, and civil society to play their part in promoting the safety of journalists and the freedom of expression.
“Free journalism,” he concluded, “is the guarantee of a strong, transparent, and democratic Pakistan.”
