Hafiz Naeem Elected New Amir of Jamat-e-Islami

Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has been elected as the new Amir of Jamat-e-Islami (JI), securing a majority vote from the Shoora members. This victory comes after a keenly contested election where Naeem faced competition from former JI chief Sirajul Haq and Liaquat Baloch.

The spokesperson for JI, Qaiser Sharif, announced that Hafiz Naeem’s term as the Amir of JI will span from 2024 to April 2029. Sharif, emphasizing that the selection process adhered to the principles outlined in JI’s constitution.

The election witnessed active participation, with 46,000 members from across the country casting their votes through a secret ballot. Sirajul Haq, the outgoing Amir, is completing his second term on April 8, marking the end of his leadership journey within JI.

New Amir of Jamat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem’s political journey has been notable, particularly in Karachi’s political arena, where he served as the Amir of JI Karachi. Born on November 7, 1970, in Hyderabad, pursued his education in Karachi, earning a degree in engineering from NED University and a master’s in Islamic history from Karachi University.

Naeem’s leadership in JI Karachi since 2013 marked by advocacy for the rights of citizens.
