India Secures World Cup Final Berth with Kohli’s Milestone Century

India’s cricket maestro Virat Kohli notched his 50th international century, steering the hosts to a commanding victory over New Zealand in the World Cup semi-final clash at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Kohli’s 117, supported by a scintillating 105 from Shreyas Iyer, propelled India to a formidable total of 397 for four wickets.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, India’s innings saw a dynamic start with captain Rohit Sharma contributing 47 in a lively 71-run opening stand with Shubman Gill. Despite Gill briefly retiring hurt due to leg cramps, he returned to the crease and played an unbeaten inning of 80. However, it was Kohli’s historic century and Iyer’s explosive 105 that stole the show, setting the stage for a challenging target for New Zealand.

In response, New Zealand, who had defeated India in the 2019 World Cup semi-final, faced a daunting task. Daryl Mitchell’s remarkable innings of 134, including a crucial partnership of 181 with Kane Williamson, kept the Black Caps in contention. However, Mohammed Shami’s exceptional seven-wicket haul turned the tide in India’s favor.

Shami, who dismissed both New Zealand openers and later removed captain Kane Williamson and Tom Latham in a single over, showcased his prowess with the ball. Despite Mitchell’s valiant effort and a 75-run partnership with Glenn Phillips, the Kiwis fell short, getting bowled out for 327 in the 49th over.

India’s victory secured their spot in the World Cup final, where they will await the winner of the second semi-final between Australia and South Africa at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on Thursday. The final is scheduled for Sunday in Ahmedabad.
