Ishaq Dar Summoned by NAB in ‘Assets Beyond Means’ Case

Islamabad: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has taken a significant step in its ongoing pursuit of accountability by summoning former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in the ‘assets beyond means’ case. Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir has issued the orders for Mr. Dar’s appearance, scheduled for October 10, 2023.

This development comes after the enactment of the National Accountability Ordinance (Amendment), which resulted in the closure of the ‘assets beyond known sources of income’ case against Ishaq Dar by the accountability court.

In a broader context, the NAB had previously sent back references against various politicians to accountability courts. This action was taken following a ruling by the Supreme Court, which struck down certain sections of the amendments made to the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) last year.

It is worth noting that the Supreme Court’s decision has far-reaching implications, as it ordered the restoration of corruption cases against public representatives. This move effectively annulled some sections of the amendments that had been introduced to the country’s accountability laws by the previous coalition government.

As the case unfolds, it will undoubtedly be closely monitored by both legal experts and the public, as it underscores the nation’s commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in its governance. Stay tuned for further developments on this matter.
