PTI chief Imran Khan shifted to Adiala jail

Rawalpindi: Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, was relocated to Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail on Tuesday, complying with the directives issued by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

This significant move follows a ruling made by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq on Monday, instructing authorities to transfer Imran Khan from Attock jail to Adiala jail. Adiala jail houses all undertrial accused of Islamabad.

Additionally, the court has reserved its verdict on a petition requesting an open hearing for Imran Khan’s bail plea in a cipher case.

Imran Khan is currently facing charges of corruption and misuse of authority in multiple cases, including the Toshakhana case, the cipher case, and the marriage case.

He was taken into custody on August 5 and subsequently sentenced to three years in prison by an accountability court in the Toshakhana case. However, the IHC later suspended the sentence.

Imran Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, emphasized that his client, being a former prime minister and an educated individual, should be provided with better facilities in jail. Additionally, he requested the court to issue a written order concerning Imran Khan’s transfer to Adiala jail.

In addition to the ongoing legal battles, Imran Khan is expected to appear before a civil court on October 2 in a case related to his marriage to Bushra Bibi. The marriage has been alleged to have been solemnized against Sharia law. The court had previously directed the authorities to produce him for the hearing, but the Attock jail administration cited security concerns as the reason for not doing so.

The shifting of Imran Khan to Adiala jail and the impending court appearances continue to draw significant attention and interest from both legal experts and the general public. Further developments in these cases will be closely monitored as they unfold.
