Melbourne: Jesmeen Khera, the manager of the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Melbourne Branch, delivered an insightful presentation at the 69th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (UN CSW) on the 10th. Speaking at the session titled “Economic Empowerment of Women Entrepreneurs, Gender Equality, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” hosted by the Belmont Business Enterprise Centre Inc. (Belmont BEC), Jesmeen addressed the crucial role of women’s peace education in promoting global peace and justice.
In her presentation, Jesmeen emphasized that throughout history, women have been leaders in economies, communities, and the advocacy for peace. She highlighted the importance of equipping women with nonviolent conflict resolution skills, leadership abilities, and decision-making capabilities to achieve key SDGs, including SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Global Partnerships).

She also discussed the significance of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), urging world leaders to adopt it as international law. Jesmeen pointed out the ongoing conflicts in Yemen and Lebanon and called on the international community to strengthen solidarity and drive tangible change. “A unified Korea will heal historical divisions and contribute to global peace and security,” she stated, further advocating for a world free from war.
The session saw over 80 participants, including prominent figures such as Irene Natividad (President, Global Summit of Women, USA), Delia Domingo Albert (Chair, ASEAN Society Philippines), and Neelima Basnet (1st Vice President, UN, BPW International, Nepal, UK).
