Lahore: In a recent statement, a spokesperson for Punjab Prisons vehemently denied the allegations made by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi regarding purported meetings between international representatives and PTI Chairman Imran Khan in Adiala jail.
Chaudhry Parvez Elahi had earlier claimed that representatives from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Union regularly visited Imran Khan, who is currently detained in Adiala jail. However, the Punjab Prisons’ spokesperson refuted these claims, labeling them as baseless, factually incorrect, and contradictory.
The spokesperson emphasized that no meeting took place between Imran Khan and representatives of the IMF and the European Union in Adiala jail, dismissing Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s statements. The denial included a clarification that Imran Khan and Pervaiz Elahi are held in separate cells, each located over 500 meters apart within Adiala jail.
Addressing the issue of transparency, the spokesperson stated that only family members and lawyers have been granted access to Imran Khan, and a detailed record of these meetings is consistently maintained. The spokesperson highlighted the security measures in place, stating that Adiala jail is equipped with over 300 CCTV cameras, all under constant surveillance in the control room of the Inspector-General Punjab Prisons.
The spokesperson concluded by asserting that the claims made by Chaudhry Parvez Elahi are entirely without merit and aimed at creating a false narrative. The prison authorities remain committed to ensuring the security and transparency of all activities within Adiala jail.
