In the wake of escalating tensions between Pakistan and India following a deadly attack on tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership convened a high-level in-camera briefing for senior political figures to discuss the national security landscape.
The session, held at the state broadcaster’s headquarters in Islamabad, was led by Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry and Information Minister Ataullah Tarar. The briefing centered on Pakistan’s security preparedness and diplomatic posture in light of India’s accusations and subsequent measures.
“If aggression is imposed on Pakistan, the armed forces are fully prepared to deliver a befitting response,” Lt Gen Chaudhry told the assembled leaders, according to sources. He reaffirmed that Pakistan remains committed to peace and regional stability but stands ready to defend its sovereignty against any threats.
Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors have spiked since the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, IIOJK, which claimed the lives of at least 26 tourists. India swiftly blamed Pakistan for the incident without providing evidence, prompting a series of unilateral punitive actions. These include suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, revoking visas for Pakistani nationals, and closing the Wagah-Attari border crossing.
In response, Pakistan expelled Indian diplomats and military advisers, cancelled visas for Indian nationals—excluding Sikh pilgrims—and shut down the border crossing from its side. Islamabad has categorically denied involvement in the attack and offered to cooperate in a credible and transparent investigation.
