Pakistan faces shortage of medicines including life-saving

Islamabad: In a letter written by the Federal Ministry of Health to the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), it has been revealed that there has been a shortage of many medicines including life-saving medicines across the country.

In this regard, the Federal Ministry of Health officials have written a letter to the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan, in which DRAP has been demanded to take action against the drug manufacturing companies.

Officials of the Federal Ministry of Health said in a letter to DRAP that steps should be taken to ensure uninterrupted supply of medicines and their availability in the market. Drape has recommended price hikes for most of the drugs that have gone out of stock.

DRAP officials confirmed that they have received the letter from the Ministry of Health and said that they are “carefully reviewing the issue of non-availability of medicines”.

It has been reported by the Health Department of Islamabad that 131 drugs have disappeared in the federal capital, Islamabad, most of the drugs that have disappeared from the market are from multinational pharmaceutical companies.

According to the sources, among the life-saving medicines that have disappeared from the markets of the country, medicines for heart diseases, blood pressure, diabetes, psychiatric diseases, gynecology, lung and infectious diseases are missing. MRI and CT scan injections are also missing from the market.
